What coverage means here

New Brunswick is flagged Complete, which means the register carries broad coverage here and a municipal source is available for much of the population.

Coverage is weakest in recently built areas everywhere, because the register publishes an address only once two independent sources agree on it. Where a municipal source is available it shows new construction sooner — see choosing between them.

What is distinctive about NB address data

New Brunswick has a provincial civic addressing programme, which gives it unusually consistent rural coverage for a province of its size.

The thing that trips people up

The province is officially bilingual and street names appear in both English and French forms. Which form appears depends on the source, and the two are not always cross-referenced.

Sources available

National register. The Statistics Canada National Address Register covers all of New Brunswick, refreshed twice a year. Carries unit counts at every building location, and census identifiers we attribute at current vintage.

Municipal open data. 2 municipalities in New Brunswick publish their own address files under licences permitting redistribution. Where one covers your area you can download it instead of, or alongside, the national extract.

Municipal open data is limited, but the provincial framework means the national register is better here than the municipality count suggests.

Where both cover an area, the download page shows them on one map with a toggle between sources so you can see the difference before choosing. Choosing between them covers the trade in general.

Municipal sources in New Brunswick

Each has its own page covering how its schema maps to ours, how it compares with the national register, its licence terms, and when it was last ingested.

By census division

  • Saint John
  • Westmorland
  • York

Every census division in New Brunswick is available separately, and larger urban divisions are further split by municipality. Browse them from the New Brunswick downloads page.

Postal code points

Postal code points for New Brunswick are calculated from the positions of the addresses carrying each code — 22,600 of them in the current release.

Each carries the number of addresses behind it and how far they spread, which is how you tell an urban code serving one blockface from a rural code covering a route. Derived from the National Address Register, not supplied by a postal authority, and not certified for mailing.

Getting the files

Free. Register with an email address and download at full coverage — there is no trimmed free tier and no paid tier above it.

Licensing is short: broad internal use, attribution required, no redistribution of the raw files.
