Two layers, free to download. Preview them on the map below before you take anything.

Both are cut from the Statistics Canada National Address Register and delivered in GeoPackage and CSV, WGS84.

Address points

One record per civic address, with the address parsed into separate fields, the administrative hierarchy attached spatially, and a stable identifier that survives between releases.

This is the layer you geocode against.

Postal code points

One point per postal code, calculated from the positions of the addresses carrying it. Each record carries the count of addresses behind it and the distance to the furthest one.

Derived from the National Address Register. Not for mailing and not certified for address validation — see what they are and are not.

Derived points behave differently from the postal boundary products you may have used before, and the difference matters. A code serving forty addresses along one side of a street gets a point on that side. A code covering a rural route gets a point that is not meaningfully “where” the code is, and is flagged accordingly by its address count and spread.

They are points, not polygons. If you need an area, build it from the addresses.

Useful for more than display: postal code typeahead that zooms a map, service area lookups that resolve without a full address, and — where number_unique is true — matching an address on civic number and postal code alone. See geocoding with postal codes, or try the geocoder tools.

These run one way only: postal code in, location out. Assigning a postal code to an address is not offered.

Parcels

Not downloadable. Parcel geometry is available as a display layer on the map above, so you can see how addresses sit on the ground, but it is not part of any extract at launch.

Parcel licensing varies by province and by municipality in ways that have to be resolved source by source. Rather than ship a layer with unclear redistribution terms, it is display-only until that work is done.

Formats

GeoPackage for anything spatial. It carries the schema, the geometry and the projection in one file, with no encoding guesswork and no truncated column names.

CSV for everything else, with latitude and longitude as ordinary columns. Opens in a spreadsheet, loads into anything.

Both are delivered in WGS84, EPSG:4326. See the projections guide for when you should reproject before doing arithmetic on them.

What ships with every download

A validation report for the area you selected, an ATTRIBUTION.txt naming every contributing source with the wording its licence requires, and a diff against the previous release so you can update rather than reload.

Preview before you download

The map above serves the actual layers, not a screenshot. Zoom into the area you work in and see how dense the addresses are, where the postal points fall, and how they sit against parcels, before committing to a multi-million row file.

Getting the files

Free. Register with an email address and download at full coverage — there is no trimmed free tier and no paid tier above it.

Licensing is short: broad internal use, attribution required, no redistribution of the raw files.

Why free

Because map hosting is the business. The data is how you find out whether we know what we are doing with Canadian address data. If it turns out you would rather not stand up tile infrastructure to publish it, that conversation is the product.
